Living & Learning

FBI Reflection:

The last day of Summer, going in to my Freshman year of high school, I had broke my foot while wakeboarding. My foot had a compression fracture which could take up to fifteen weeks to heal with or without surgery. This left me heartbroken because I had a lot of sports ahead of me to play such as football, basketball, and golf. This was the beginning of my four years of high school sports, and not being able to play sports for the first fifteen weeks of my first year greatly effected me. Even though that situation was not ideal, I can now benefit from it.

Now, looking back on that situation after going through the Freshmen Business Initiative at Texas A&M, I realize how blessed I am that it was not worse. I realize that now because the FBI program taught me to view situations from different perspectives. The FBI program teaches students how to analyze and reflect upon things in our daily lives, not just in business. This is significant because FBI has helped me to change my perspective on things, to not just go through the motions, and to be thankful for what I have. The FBI program is awesome, and it has helped me to reflect on past situations and prepare me for the future!

Outdoor Experience:

My passion for adventures and the outdoors has only been growing exponentially. Through this, I have started keeping a journal and exploring new things such as videography  amongst many other things. I was also blessed with the opportunity to work with C and J Ranch. At this ranch, I grew and maintained populations of any and all types of animals from kangaroo to zebra to wildebeest to whitetail deer. This included catching and tagging fawns as well as improving the habitat such as the vegetation and water on the property. I also was able to meet and connect with all different kinds of people that came to this ranch. As such, I entertained, guided, and cooked for these people. Because of this opportunity, I could write a book about the experiences I had at this ranch. I am grateful for this opportunity because it allowed me to grow my passion and develop me as a person.

Internships:

Throughout the past several summers since I have been apart of Texas A&M University, I have mostly been taking classes. This has put me in a position to graduate early. However, the summer of 2020, I was able to get a full-time internship with Texas Landscape Group. At this company, I explored new business development opportunities through marketing and networking with clients. I also measured blueprints and submitted proposals to potential clients. An amazing learning experience.

Volunteership:

I have had a few grand opportunities to volunteer due to unfortunate circumstances. Because of this, I have been able to give back to the community in times of need. In my hometown of Brazoria, south of Houston, we were devastated by Hurricane Harvey. Through this incident, I helped cook and distribute food and water at food drives during the flooding. I was also able to help people clean their homes after the flood waters went down. I was definitely humbled by this experience, but I was glad to help where I could.

Another volunteer opportunity I took part in was at the Brazos Valley Food Bank in Bryan, TX. I helped organize and distribute donated food which allowed less fortunate children to have food for their lunches. It also allowed families to bring food to their homes as well. This experience helped me realize how vital it is for people to volunteer and give back to communities.
